Arjun Erigaisi gets US visa for World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2024
Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi has got the US visa to compete at the upcoming World Rapid and Blitz Championships in New York.
The World Rapid and Blitz Championships will be held in New York from December 26 to 31. The tournament is set to feature chess stars such as Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Boris Gelfand and many others.
Sportstar understands that the 21-year-old Arjun will leave for New York later on Monday night.
Arjun, World No. 4 and the top-ranked Indian in FIDE ratings, had written on social media on Friday that he had not received the visa required to travel and compete in the tournament.
“Last week, I submitted my passport to you (US Embassy) for visa stamping and it still has not been returned. I request you to please expedite the process and return my passport as soon as possible as I need it for my travel to New York for World Rapid & Blitz Championship,” Arjun had written in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Arjun recently became only the second Indian after five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand to cross the 2800-mark in Elo ratings. He grabbed an individual as well as the team gold at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
