World Rapid & Blitz Championship 2024: Full list of Indians in action in New York event
The 2024 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships will be held on Wall Street in New York from December 26 to December 31.
With interest in Indian chess at an all-time high following D Gukesh’s victory in the World Chess Championship, India’s top chess talents will have high hopes of competing against the world’s best.
Magnus Carlsen is the defending champion, having won gold medals in both the Rapid and Blitz categories in Samarkand in 2023.
Among Indians, Koneru Humpy had the best finish in 2023.
The highest-ranked Indian finished joint-first before losing the tie-break to eventual winner Anastasia Bodnaruk. She bagged silver in Women’s Rapid.
In the Open section, Vidit Gujrathi finished just outside the podium in the Rapid section while Arjun was placed sixth in the Blitz.
There will be 18 Indians in the fray this time. 10 in the Open while eight in the Women’s category.
