PGTI president, Kapil Dev, pledges to grow the game further

The president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), Kapil Dev, assured that he would continue to grow the game, as he presented the achievements of the season.

“Golf has deeply touched my life, especially after I retired from cricket. It is now my endeavour to grow this wonderful game of golf and create more opportunities for its development across the country,” said Kapil, in a release here on Thursday.

In 21 tournaments through the season, the PGTI offered an overall prize pool of 33 crore rupees. Kapil had recently stressed that this prize would reach 50 crore rupees soon.

Veer Ahlawat emerged as the Tata Steel PGTI ranking champion, collecting a record Rs. 1.56 crore for the season. He won two titles and had nine top-10 performances. He was rewarded with the DP World Tour card for 2025.

More than that, the top-10 players collected a minimum of 44 lakh rupees, while the top-20 got a minimum of 31 lakh. The top-30 were assured of 22 lakh rupees, that established the growing financial rewards for the professionals.

The 21 events had 19 different winners, including four first time champions. The average winning score was 17-under and four titles were decided on play-off, including the season-ending championship in Jamshedpur.

Rayhan Thomas, a professional of Indian origin from the UAE, won on debut, and secured the Korn Ferry Tour and Challenge Tour cards for 2025.

While international champions Gaganjeet Bhullar and Ajeetesh Sandhu shone bright at home, players from USA, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Chile, Japan and Korea joined the Indian tour, elevating its global presence.
