Kannur district plans comprehensive health awareness project to combat epidemics

The Health department has proposed a year-long health awareness project to combat epidemics, including jaundice, dengue, and malaria, in the district.

The initiative was presented by District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Piyush M. Namboothiripad during the district planning committee meeting on Monday (December 23).

The project will be incorporated into the annual plans of panchayats and municipalities. Key activities include water sample collection, testing in government labs, chlorination of water sources, disinfection, and fogging to control mosquito-borne diseases.

To raise public health awareness, ward-level education sessions will be held, along with the distribution of posters and pamphlets. The initiative will involve active participation from local self-government bodies across the district.

Dr. Namboothiripad informed the committee that the plan has been submitted for approval. Local government representatives at the meeting expressed full support and pledged cooperation for its successful implementation.
