Vidaamuyarchi: Sawadeeka first single samples Irunga Bhai prank call audio!

Vidaamuyarchi: Sawadeeka first single samples Irunga Bhai prank call audio!

In 2022, a Coimbatore based YouTube channel uploaded a prank call recording made to a butcher shop owner, where an audibly distressed middle aged man starts cursing at a younger group of men, knowing the nature of the call. The video titled ‘Karikada Bhai’ (Butcher Shop Muslim Man) showcases two different calls made by two young men each ordering 10kgs of meat, and a gun used in playing video games respectively.

The butcher shop owner during his first bout of exasperation says, “Irunga Bhai” (Irunga = Wait, Bhai = a term used to call a male belonging to the Muslim community) to the caller. Coimbatore region is known for using Kongu dialect of Tamil, and the phrase ‘Irunga Bhai’ being uttered in the same, was picked up by the chaos-loving Gen Z, and popularized into a meme. This ‘Irunga Bhai’ audio bit has now been sampled by composer Anirudh Ravichander in the Vidaamuyarchi first single Sawadeeka

Sawadeeka under Sony Music label was released Friday morning on all audio streaming platforms. At 5 PM, Sawadeeka’s lyric video featuring glimpses of Ajith, Trisha from Vidaamuyarchi, and Anirudh’s promotional cameo was unveiled on Sony Music South’s YouTube channel.

A Lyca Productions venture, Vidaamuyarchi is scheduled to release for Pongal in January, 2025. The movie is an adaptation of Jonathan Mostow’s Hollywood road thriller Breakdown (1997), and is directed by Magizh Thirumeni.
