ZIM vs AFG: Zimbabwe sets new record, registers its highest total in Test matches
Zimbabwe registered its highest total in Test matches during the first Test against Afghanistan at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe racked up 586 runs in 135.2 overs to set the record-breaking total in its first innings.
Sean Williams was the innings’ top scorer with 154 from 174 balls, which included 10 fours and three sixes.
AM Ghazanfar, who was recently picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 4.8 crore, was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, taking three for 127 in 30.2 overs.
Besides Williams, Craig Ervine and Brian Bennett also scored centuries.
Captain Ervine scored 104 runs in 176 balls, while Bennett scored an unbeaten 110 in 124 deliveries.
There were also runs from Ben Curran, brother of England internationals Sam Curran and Tom Curran, who scored 68 from 74 balls while opening the batting on Test debut.
Zimbabwe’s previous highest total came in 2001, when it racked up 563 for nine in 167 overs against West Indies in Harare. Hamilton Masakadza was the top-scorer then, with 119 in 316 deliveries, as the match ended in a draw.
