AFF Cup 2024: Vietnam rides on Rafaelson’s brace to beat Singapore, enters ASEAN Championship final
Rafaelson, also known as Nguyen Xuan Son, scored a brace as Vietnam beat Singapore 3-1 in the second semifinal of the ASEAN Championship, at the Viet Tri Stadium in Vietnam on Sunday.
The 27-year-old Brazilian-born striker was on fire across both legs as he scored three of the five goals, helping his side reach consecutive finals of the tournament.
Xuan Son opened the scoring in the first-half stoppage time, converting from the spot and doubling the lead after the hour-mark. The goal made him the highest goalscorer in this edition of the tournament, with five goals.
Kyoga Nakamura tried to help the visitors back into the game with a goal in the 74th minute but Nguyen Tien Linh put the competition to bed with a second-half stoppage time.
Vietnam will play the winner of the other semiifinal between Philippines and Thailand, with its second leg set to be played on December 30 at the Rajamangala Stadium.
