Melbourne Cricket Ground registered record attendance for a Boxing Day Test during the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne.

On Sunday, a total of 43,867 people attended the fourth day at the MCG. Adding attendance for the previous three days, a total of 299,329 people were present at the big ‘G for this match with one more day still left.

The previous highest attendance for a Boxing Day Test was in 2013 against England where the attendance exceeded a total of 271,855.

Boxing Day in sports commemorates the return of action to the pitch on the first day after Christmas. Every year, December 26 is referred to as ‘Boxing Day’ in all sports around the world.

Boxing Day Tests are a traditional and significant part of international cricket, particularly in countries like Australia and South Africa.
