Australia vs India 4th Test records highest attendance ever at Melbourne Cricket Ground

The Australia vs India fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy recorded highest ever attendance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday.

The official attendance at the end of first session of the fifth and final day was 51,371. It took the overall attendance to 3,50,700 over the course of five days, surpassing the previous best of 3,50,534 people who attended the 1936/37 Test against England.

This is also an all-time highest crowd in a Test in Australia as well.

On Sunday, MCG registered record attendance for a Boxing Day Test. A total of 43,867 people turned up to watch the fourth day’s play, making it 299,329 people attending the match at the big ‘G.

The previous highest attendance for a Boxing Day Test was in 2013 against England where the attendance exceeded a total of 271,855.
