Gabriela Dabrowski reveals she survived breast cancer in 2024

While Gabriela Dabrowski continued to chase titles, she was also fighting a battle outside tennis courts at the same time.

The Canadian, World No. 3 in doubles, revealed on Tuesday that she survived breast cancer in 2024.

Dabrowski is a three-time Grand Slam champion. She won mixed doubles titles at French Open 2017 (with India’s Rohan Bopanna) and Australian Open 2018 (with Croatia’s Mate Pavic), and women’s doubles crown at US Open 2023 (with New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe).

“How can something so small cause such a big problem? This is the question I asked myself when I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in mid-April. I know this will come as a shock to many, but I am okay and I will be okay,” wrote the 32-year-old in a long Instagram post.

Dabrowski said that she had two surgeries before delaying further treatment so that she could compete at Wimbledon and Paris Olympics. She and Routliffe finished as runner-up at the grass Major. At the Summer Games, she and Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched a bronze medal in mixed doubles.

While she continued to compete at tournaments, she also had endocrine therapy. Dabrowski and Routliffe won the year-end WTA Finals.

“Early on in my diagnosis, I was afraid of cancer becoming a part of my identity forever. I don’t feel that way anymore. It is a privilege to be able to call myself a survivor,” she wrote on social media.
