Premier League 2024-25: Wolves forward Cunha handed two-match ban for ‘misconduct’ during match against Ipswich Town

Wolverhampton Wanderers, on Tuesday, said that Matheus Cunha has been handed a two-match suspension for acting in an “improper manner” after full-time during the match against Ipswich Town earlier this month.

The FA in a statement said that the Brazilian forward was also fined £80,000 for his actions following Wolves’ 1-2 loss against the newly-promoted club on December 14 at the Molineux Stadium.

“The forward was charged with misconduct and it was alleged that he acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He admitted the charge and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission,” the statement said.

“Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course,” it added.

Ipswich clinched the game in the dying seconds, courtesy of an own goal from Matt Doherty and the winner from Jack Taylor after Cunha had levelled it up for the home side.

After the match, Wolves defender Rayan Aït-Nouri and Cunha were involved in a tussle with the members of the visiting side, following which the former was shown a red card.

Cunha on the other hand was handed a suspension after two gameweeks, during which he recorded two goals and one assist.

He will not be part of Vitor Pereira’s squad for the league match against Nottingham Forest and the FA Cup third-round tie away to Bristol City.
