Punjab vs Saurashtra records second-highest aggregate score in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match

Punjab and Saurashtra tallied 791 runs between each other in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match which happened in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

This tally is the second-highest match aggregate score in the history of the tournament, only behind the 805 combined runs scored by Bengal and Services in a game which happened in 2022 in Ranchi.

After being inserted Punjab rode on hundreds from openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh to record 424 for five in the first innings.

Punjab’s total was the joint fifth-highest total in the Indian List A competition along with Madhya Pradesh which got the same total against Nagaland in 2022.

Saurashtra’s response was held together by a hundred from middle-order batter Arpit Vasavada. But the side fell short by 57 runs, with the match aggregate falling nine short of the 800-run mark.

The highest match aggregate score in a List A game is 872, by South Africa and Australia, from the iconic 2006 game which happened in Johannesburg.
