AUS vs IND, 5th Test: Rohit Sharma’s exclusion from Sydney Test a ‘management call’, says Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant admitted to a touch of emotion within the ranks when news about Rohit Sharma missing the fifth Test spread. “He is our captain, and obviously there will be some emotion. As for the decision, it was a management call, so I was not part of that conversation, so I can’t explain anything other than that,” Pant told the media here on Friday.
Asked for his inputs on Jasprit Bumrah as captain, Pant said: “Mostly his message is to be positive all the time and not think about what has already happened; just give your best on the field. That’s what you want from your captain.”
Shubman Gill, who missed the Boxing Day Test, made his return to the playing XI for the final Test against Australia. His inclusion comes in place of captain Rohit, who has endured a challenging tour, scoring only 31 runs across three matches.
In Rohit’s absence, Bumrah took over as captain for the Sydney Test. Bumrah previously led India to victory in the opening Test in Perth.
At the toss, Bumrah mentioned that Rohit had “opted” to rest for the match.
