Australian Open 2025: Wimbledon champion Krejcikova withdraws due to injury

Barbora Krejcikova has withdrawn from the upcoming Australian Open due to an injury, the defending Wimbledon champion announced on Sunday.

“I wanted to share a quick update regarding my withdrawal from the Australian Open. Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed. It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarterfinals last year,” she said via a post on her X account.

During last year’s edition of the tournament Down Under, the Czech player fell to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.

But her 2024 was marked by her second Grand Slam career title when she clinched the Wimbledon championship by defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

“Thanks to all of you for your support. I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon!” she ended her message on the social media platform.

The now 29-year-old won her first Grand Slam title in 2021 when she won the French Open after beating Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
