Afghanistan registers first-ever multi-Test bilateral series win after beating Zimbabwe

Afghanistan secured its first-ever bilateral Test series win after defeating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the two-match series in Bulawayo on Monday.

This marked Afghanistan’s fourth victory in 11 matches since achieving Test status in 2017. Its only multi-game Test series have been against Zimbabwe—twice; the first, in 2021, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Afghanistan needed just 15 balls to seal victory on the final day of the second Test at Queens Sports Club, winning by 72 runs.

Zimbabwe was dismissed for 205, failing to add to its overnight score and losing its last two wickets in only 13 minutes.

It was Rashid Khan’s leg-spin on Sunday that put Afghanistan in a winning position after Zimbabwe initially seemed poised for victory at 157-4, chasing a target of 278 runs.

The first Test, also in Bulawayo, ended in a high-scoring draw.
