Bentancur stretchered off after bad fall during Tottenham’s EFL Cup semifinal clash against Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was stretchered off after collapsing on the pitch during the EFL Cup semifinal first leg clash against Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday.

Bentancur landed on his head as he looked to get on the head of a Spurs corner kick in the sixth minute. His teammate Pedro Porro rushed to him before calling for medical assistance.

The 27-year-old Argentine received a lengthy check-up on the pitch before he was taken off on a stretcher in the 15th minute and was replaced by Brennan Johnson.

Fans applauded as he was carried off the field.

Bentancur had returned to the starting XI after serving a one-match suspension for picking up five yellow cards this season. He had previously completed a seven-match domestic ban set by the Football Association for using a racial slur towards his teammate Heung-min Son.
