West Ham United parts ways with manager Julen Lopetegui; Graham Potter set to replace him
Premier League club West Ham United announced on Wednesday that manager Julen Lopetegui has left the club with immediate effect.
The team is currently placed fourteenth in the Premier League table, seven points away from the relegation zone but has managed only one win in its last five matches.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the Club’s ambitions and the Club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives,” the club said in a statement.
“The Board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future. The process of appointing a replacement is underway.”
The 58-year-old Spaniard was appointed in May on a reported two-year contract to implement a more expansive playing style at West Ham after several seasons of pragmatism under David Moyes.
Lopetegui’s support staff including Assistant Head Coach Pablo Sanz, Head of Performance Oscar Caro, Head Analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, Fitness Coach Borja De Alba and Technical Coach Edu Rubio will also relinquished their positions.
Reports in England suggest former Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter will succeed the spaniard at the London club. Potter has been without a club since being relieved on his duties at Chelsea in 2023.
