Malaysia Open 2025: Prannoy, Treesa-Gayatri fall to Chinese opponents in Round of 16

HS Prannoy fought hard but couldn’t overcome China’s Li Shifeng as the Indian shuttler bowed out of the Malaysia Open in the Round of 16 stage on Thursday.

After losing the first game badly, having scored just eight points with his racquet, Prannoy came back with a 21-15 win to get himself back in the match. However, the Chinese player edged the Indian out in a closely-contested decider which ended 23-21.

Earlier in the day, women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also exited the competition in the Ro16 after losing 21-15, 18-21, 19-21 to China’s Zhang Shuxian and Jia Yifan.

Mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also was beaten by China’s Zhang Chi and
Cheng Xing in straight games.

Later in the day, the likes of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, Malvika Bansod, and duo of Sathish Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath play their fixtures.
