Australian Open 2025: Sumit Nagal exits in first round
Sumit Nagal exited the Australian Open 2025 in the first round after he was overpowered by Czechia’s Tomas Machac in Melbourne.
While the Indian displayed some fight in the first set, which he lost 3-6, Machac showed complete dominance in the second, winning it 6-1.
The 26th seed in this edition of the Melbourne Park Slam seemed to brush past Nagal to the point that he was returning the Indian’s serve with ease and racking up points.
Nagal looked visibly frustrated and down after losing the first two sets.
However, the third set saw a much-better Nagal who took a two-game lead as well, forcing a smile from the Indian. He even went on to break the Czechia player’s serve a couple of times, but Machac held his nerve.
Machac in the end got himself over the line with a straight-sets win over Nagal, after clinching the third set 7-5, in a match that lasted for two hours and five minutes.
