ISL 2024-25: Why is Rahul KP not playing in Kerala Blasters vs Odisha FC?
Odisha FC will take on Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi looking to secure a win that would take it into the top six of the Indian Super League (ISL) table. However, it will have to do so without the services of new signing Rahul KP, who recently joined from the Blasters.
Rahul will not be available due to a clause in the transfer agreement that meant Odisha would have to pay a significant fee in order for him to play against his former club. Responding to a fan question on X, Odisha owner Rohan Sharma clarified that the clause had been inserted so that the Juggernauts could secure the winger’s signature immediately and without having to pay a transfer fee.
Winger Rahul KP joined Odisha on a permanent deal on January 6 from Kerala Blasters. He made an instant impact for Odisha, scoring a 98th-minute equaliser against Chennaiyin FC on debut.
He has appeared 82 times in the ISL, scoring eight goals and assisting five. This includes a goal for Kerala Blasters in the 2021-22 ISL final against Hyderabad FC, which it would go on to lose on penalties.
