Exploring Alcohol, Addiction, Ilaiyaraaja and More in Modern Society

Director Mysskin’s recent speech discussing topics like alcohol consumption and addiction has sparked significant debate online. He made these remarks at the trailer launch of the movie ‘Pattal Raatha,’ directed by Dinakaran Sivalingam and produced by Pa. Ranjith and Arun Balaji. The event, held in Chennai, saw the presence of notable guests such as directors Vetrimaaran, Mysskin, Lingusamy, and Ameer.

During his speech, Mysskin candidly admitted that he enjoys drinking but asserted that he has never been controlled by alcohol. He shared personal experiences from his early days as an assistant director, mentioning how alcohol would often accompany creative discussions about cinema. He humorously declared himself as one of Tamil cinema’s most prolific drinkers.

Mysskin also spoke about how society stigmatizes drinking and linked addiction to emotional struggles. He stated that while he consumes alcohol, he finds a greater “addiction” in cinema, particularly through influential figures like Kurosawa and Ilaiyaraaja. Mysskin praised Ilaiyaraaja’s music as an irreplaceable element in his life, humorously noting that the composer’s melodies could be seen as a “side dish” for alcohol and even a source of addiction for many.

His remarks drew attention, sparking conversations on the internet, with several people sharing clips of his speech. The candidness and controversial nature of his statements, particularly about Ilaiyaraaja’s impact, have led to widespread debate.
