IND vs ENG, 1st T20I: England playing XI for first T20 in Kolkata announced
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the playing XI for the first T20 International against India, which will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.
England is entering a new era in white-ball cricket under coach Brendon McCullum, who has promised to maintain the aggressive style of play that has been his trademark. Since taking over in 2022, the former New Zealand captain has focused on transforming the Test squad, while Matthew Mott has continued to coach the team in shorter formats.
However, Mott stepped down last year after England’s failure to defend its T20 and 50-overs World Cup titles within seven months across 2023-24. Consequently, McCullum has been given the responsibility of revitalising the team’s fortunes in limited-overs cricket.
India will host England for a five-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series.
