Paul Lambert, 1996-97 Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund, kicked off his brief training camp for the Murugappa Youth Football Academy (MYFA) trainees at the Vellayan Chettiyar School ground here on Thursday.
The 55-year-old, who arrived on Wednesday, said he’s “just joined the BVB group” as the Technical Director of Southeast Asia. He added that he would travel frequently, primarily based in Australia, where he would also work with the Australian club Wynnum Wolves FC in partnership with Borussia Dortmund.
A group of trainees from Wynnum Wolves are also training with the MYFA students until Sunday, the last day of the camp.
Lambert said he’s emphasizing learning without stress.
“There’s no pressure, no stress. It’s for the kids to have fun and learn from the coaches, and then the coaches maybe can learn from people like myself and the coaches who have come over from Wynnum Wolves. I think that’s the key. There’s nothing other than the kids seeing a different way or hearing a different voice. They’re integrating with the Australian kids as well, which is important,” he said.
