The sixth round of Ranji Trophy 2024/25 kicked off on Thursday with focus on the India internationals who were featuring for their respective teams following the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) guidelines that made it mandatory for them to participate.
As many as five players who featured in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, including captain Rohit Sharma, were in action on day one.

Rohit Sharma returned to Mumbai after nearly a decade and was in desperate need of runs after a horrid outing against Australia Down Under.
He scored just three runs off 19 deliveries and was troubled by the Jammu & Kashmir pace duo of Auqib Nabi and Umar Nazir during his entire stay at the crease. He was accounted for the by the latter as Rohit handed a leading edge to the mid off fielder.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has a stellar domestic record but he failed to emulate that on Thursday for Mumbai. He was quick to get off the blocks, cutting Nabi through backward point for a boundary.
But the southpaw was given the marching order when he was trapped leg-before against an in-seaming delivery from Nabi.
In Bengaluru, Shubman Gill, turning up for Punjab against Karnataka, was caught behind off Abhilash Shetty, just a couple of deliveries after cover-driving him for a boundary. Punjab folded for 55 runs in its first innings.
In Rajkot, Rishabh Pant appeared for Delhi in a First-Cass game for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. The flamboyant left-hander was dismissed for 1 off 10 balls by veteran Saurashtra spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
The only player of the quintet that had a day to remember was Ravindra Jadeja. He accounted for Navdeep Saini, Harsh Tyagi, Sanat Sangwan, Yash Dhull, and Ayush Badoni and played a crucial role in bundling out Delhi for 188 runs.
He also became just the fourth Saurashtra bowler to register 200 wickets or more in the Ranji Trophy.
Jadeja took an aggressive approach with the bat. He walked in at number five for Saurashtra and blazed away to 38 runs off 36 deliveries. His essay included two fours and three sixes.
