I-League wrap 2024-25: Gokulam Kerala thrashes Kashi; SC Bengaluru edges past Sreenidi

It was a tennis score, yes, but Gokulam Kerala’s 6-2 win over Inter Kashi was a lot more. It wasn’t as hopelessly one-sided as the scoreline might indicate, especially in the first half, in which the visiting side took the lead twice.

This was the best football the Gokulam men played this season. And it was their first win at home, in what was their fifth game at the Corporation Stadium.

The match, which featured some excellent end-to-end football, got off to a stunning start, with Bryce Miranda putting Kashi ahead with a brilliant solo effort in the third minute.

But seven minutes later, Sinisa Stanisavic equalised for Gokulam, and he would score twice more. In the 27th minute, Matija Babovic struck to make it 2-1 for Kashi. However, just three minutes later, Stanisavic once again brought his team back into the match.

Then Gokulam took the lead for the first time, with Nacho Abeledo scoring in the injury time. He finished off in style with a brilliant long-ranger from near the centre line in the second-half injury time.

Gokulam Kerala 6 (Sinisa Stanisavic 10, 30 & 73, Nacho Abeledo 45+2 & 90+5, Sergio Llamas 50) bt Inter Kashi 2 (Bryce Miranda 3, Matija Babovic 27).

Sporting Club Bengaluru’s 48-day wait for bagging its second three-pointer in the I-League 2024-25 ended on Friday, when it edged Sreenidi Deccan FC 1-0 at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

The winners scored the only goal of the match through Asif OM in the 34th minute.

SC Bengaluru’s only other victory in the ongoing campaign came on December 7, 2024, at the same venue against Dempo Sports Club. The win is somewhat of a relief for the home team as it was languishing at the bottom of the table before this match.

The three points against Sreenidi have now taken SC Bengaluru to eight points from nine matches and elevated it to the 11th position thus relegating Aizawl FC to the unenviable last spot in the 12-team competition. Sreenidi remains static at the sixth place with 11 points in their kitty from 10 outings.

SC Bengaluru 1 (Asif OM 34’) beat Sreenidi Deccan FC 0
