Premier League 2024-25: Arsenal keeps title race alive with nervy 1-0 win at Wolves, Everton edges Brighton

Riccardo Calafiori’s goal earned Arsenal a 1-0 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday after a contest which ended with both sides down to 10 men, and the visitor kept its Premier League title hopes alive with a hard-fought victory.

Arsenal had Myles Lewis-Kelly controversially sent off just before the break and Wolves Joao Gomes received his marching orders with 20 minutes remaining and the game still scoreless.

Calafiori, a substitute at the start of the second half, struck four minutes later, and Arsenal came away from Molineux with the all-important three points.

The win keeps Arsenal second in the standings, six behind Liverpool which has played one fewer game. Arsenal moves three points ahead of Nottingham Forest, while Wolves remains just above the relegation zone in 17th place on 16 points.

Iliman Ndiaye scored a first-half penalty as Everton secured only its second Premier League away win since December 2023 with a 1-0 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion to move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Brighton defender Joel Veltman inexplicably handled the ball under pressure from striker Beto, scooping the it away with his right arm, and Ndiaye kept his cool to bury the spot-kick in the bottom left corner.

Everton had to weather wave after wave of Brighton attacks in the second half but the home side, which was on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, failed to break down a resolute visiting defence.

Brighton stays in ninth place with 34 points from 23 games, while Everton is in 16th with 23 points from its 22 matches and have won two of its three games under new manager David Moyes.
