Sivakarthikeyan’s Upcoming Film Parasakthi Faces Title Controversy
Before the official announcement of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming movie, the title has already sparked controversy. Directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Jayam Ravi, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, the film is set to release soon. The teaser with the title is expected next week, and the movie is reportedly titled “Parasakthi” as per the censor certification.
The Sivaji Social Welfare Association has criticized the use of the title “Parasakthi.” In their statement, they emphasized that “Parasakthi” is not just a movie title but a landmark in Tamil cinema. The 1952 film, starring Sivaji Ganesan and written by M. Karunanidhi, set a precedent with powerful dialogues, emotional acting, and social reform themes, marking a turning point in Tamil cinema. The association believes reusing the title diminishes its historical significance.
The association also pointed out that previous attempts to reuse the title faced similar opposition, leading one such movie to be renamed “Meendum Parasakthi.” They criticized the current trend of recycling iconic aspects of Tamil cinema, including remixing classic songs, and questioned the lack of originality in new projects.
The association has urged the producers and director of this new film to change the title immediately, warning of protests if their request is ignored. They feel that retaining the title would disrespect Tamil cinema’s legacy and hurt countless fans of Sivaji Ganesan worldwide.
This controversy has drawn attention to the importance of preserving cultural significance in creative works and maintaining respect for cinema’s history.
