Olympian Nishant Dev beats Alton Wiggins on pro boxing debut

Indian boxer Nishant Dev made a dazzling start to his professional boxing career, securing a dominant victory over Alton Wiggins via first-round stoppage. The 24-year-old showcased his skill and composure in a four-round bout, earning a unanimous decision on the undercard of the Diego Pacheco vs. Steve Nelson event. Nishant has signed with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. Former professional boxer Ronald Simms is training the two-time National champion.

Nishant bets on himself ahead of professional debut in Las Vegas

Nishant rose to prominence during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he delivered an inspiring run to the quarterfinals before narrowly losing to Mexico’s Marco Verde.

Before becoming professional, he was widely regarded as India’s best men’s amateur boxer of his generation. At the 2023 IBA Boxing World Championships, he made history by becoming the first Indian boxer to defeat a fighter from Cuba – a nation considered to have the greatest boxing pedigree – on his way to securing a bronze medal.
