Jana Nayagan Vs Enga Veettu Pillai: Vijay’s second look prompts MGR film parallels

Jana Nayagan Vs Enga Veettu Pillai: Vijay’s second look prompts MGR film parallels

Jana Nayagan starring Vijay in the lead is the actor’s last film before his big political debut in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections in 2026. A KVN productions venture, Jana Nayagan had a first and second look poster release marking Republic day.

While the Jana Nayagan first look was an ode to Vijay’s Neyveli selfie, the Jana Nayagan second look with the tagline ‘Naan Anai Ittal‘ was an ode to Enga Veettu Pillai (1965) MGR which gave the cult classic Naan Aanaiyittal song. Besides the whip in actor Vijay’s hand and the obvious tagline, there were other interesting parallels that drew MovieCrow’s attention.

MGR’s Enga Veettu Pillai is a remake of a Telugu film titled Ramudu Bheemudu (1964) starring Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao aka NTR in the lead. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has long been rumoured to be a remake of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, NTR’s sixth son.

Enga Veettu Pillai released on January 14, 1965 marking Pongal that year. Initially set to release in October 2025, Jana Nayagan‘s release has now been pushed to Pongal, 2026. An official announcement on the Jana Nayagan‘s release date awaits. Notably, the new Jana Nayagan posters do not mention October release.
