Jasprit Bumrah named ICC Test cricketer of the year 2024

India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named Test cricketer of the year 2024, the International Cricket Council announced at the ICC awards on Monday.

Bumrah topped the bowling charts, claiming 71 wickets during the calendar year and was far and ahead of the second-placed Gus Atkinson from England, who had 52 scalps.

He was also part of the ICC Test team of the year along with his countrymates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja, a side led by Australia’s Pat Cummins.

The 31-year-old averaged just 14.92 per wicket and ended 2024 with a strike rate of just 30.1. During India’s tour of Australia, Bumrah also completed his 200 Test wickets and became the only bowler with a minimum of 200 dismissals to have an average less than 20 (19.4).

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the pacer finished with 32 wickets in five Tests and was adjudged Player of the Series. Earlier in the year, Bumrah got 19 wickets during England’s five-match Test tour of India.
