Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Goa beats Nagaland by 362 runs, clinches Plate Division title

Goa defeated Nagaland by 362 runs in the Plate Group Final of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, on Monday.

Both teams have been promoted to the Elite Division for the next edition.

Chasing a huge target of 578, Nagaland was bundled out for 215 on the final day. Skipper Darshan Misal took 5 for 48 for Goa with his left-arm spin.

Goa won the toss and elected to bat first. Half centuries from Suyash Prabhudessai (56), Snehal Kauthankar (63) and Kashyap Bakle (79 not out) helped the visitor score 276 in the first innings.

Nagaland fell short off Goa’s first-innings total by 60 runs as captain R Jonathan (86) and Hem Chetri (55) did not find support from the rest of the batting order.

The host seemed to be back in the game when it had reduced Goa to three for 42. However, a 278-run fourth-wicket partnership between Kauthankar (202 not out) and Bakle (161) dashed any hopes of victory for Nagaland. Misal and Kauthankar also added 145 runs for the fifth wicket to pile on the host’s misery.

Goa eventually declared its second innings on seven for 517 and removed six Nagaland batters before the end of the fourth day’s play.

The fifth day’s play turned out to be a mere formality as Goa wrapped up the win soon after Lunch.
