Smriti Mandhana named ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer Of The Year 2024
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was named the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024 on Monday.
The 28-year-old Mandhana had a stellar year with the bat in the 50-over format.
She scored back-to-back hundreds in a 3-0 home series win against South Africa in June. In October, she came up with a match-winning ton in the series-decider against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
She recorded her fourth three-digit score of the year in a losing cause in Perth in December.
Overall, she amassed 747 runs in 13 innings, finishing ahead of Laura Wolvaardt (697), Tammy Beaumont (554) and Hayley Matthews (469).
Mandhana’s runs came at an impressive average of 57.86 and a strike rate of 95.15. Her four ODI centuries in the year is also a new record in the women’s game.
Her 2024 performance also cemented her place at the top of the run scorers charts in the ICC Women’s Championship – the ODI table that will cement the qualifiers for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The Indian is one of just five batters to have reached four figures in the competition, scoring a total of 1358 runs in her 24 matches in the Championship.
