Dhanush Vs Nayanthara: HC rejects Netflix India’s plea! Next hearing in Feb
The Madras High Court on January 28, 2025 rejected an application filed by Netflix India requesting to dismiss actor Dhanush’s copyright claim over a 3 second footage that appears in the OTT platform’s docu series Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
In November, 2024 Dhanush moved court against Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan and Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, an entity through which Netflix reports its content investments in India, over Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale using video clips from the shooting of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), a production venture of Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.
For the IP violation, Dhanush has demanded Rs. 10 Cr. in copyright infringement fees. Wunderbar Film’s interim application will now be heard by the Madras High Court on February 5, 2025.
