Lewis Hamilton crashes in second Ferrari F1 test
Lewis Hamilton was involved in a crash during his second F1 practice session with Ferrari on Thursday taking place in Barcelona.
The 40-year-old, who joined the Prancing Horse after a 12-year stint with Mercedes, had a maiden run in the SF-23 last week at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track.
According to Motorsport.com Italy, Hamilton lost control of the car on the final stretch of the Montmelò circuit, crashing into the barriers.
The track rescue team was immediately called and the driver left the cockpit of the red car with his vehicles completely unharmed, but the single-seater suffered rather serious damage to the suspension and some aerodynamic parts, as quoted by the site.
The Prancing Horse technicians, led by Matteo Togninalli, are evaluating after the car was brought back to the pits by a tow truck.
This was set to be Hamilton’s final day in the 2023 car with an aim to build familiarity with the team. Ferrari has now used up three of the four days its race drivers are allowed to spend testing older cars this year.
