Actor Sivakumar’s paintings released as picture postcards by Indian postal services
On January 29, 2025, the TANAPEX 2025, the 14th State level philatelic exhibition, was inaugurated as a 4-day exhibition in Chennai, after a gap of nearly 7 years. The Indian postal department, marking the inaugural of TANAPEX 2025, released a picture postcard album titled ‘Tamil Nadu 1960s’ based on the watercolour paintings of veteran actor Sivakumar.
Sivakumar’s eldest son and actor, Suriya took to X to share a compilation of the painitings with the caption, ““Passion makes art timeless”. My dad’s selfless love for watercolor and spot painting is now immortalized as postcards by the Indian Postal Department. Even more proud today Appa. #ActorSivakumar #PostCards #1960s”.
The picture postcards are issued by the Postmaster General of Chennai city region. Actor Sivakumar’s paintings illustrate famous places across Tamil Nadu including the Mount Road LIC building, Dhun Building, Mahabalipuram chariots, Egambareswarar temple, Gingee fort, and the Tiruvannamalai temple in Chennai, the Brihadeeshwarar temple at Thanjavur, Trichy’s Rock fort, Puducherry’s the Duplex street, Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, Courtrallam falls in the Tenkasi region, and Kanyakumari.
