ISL 2024-25: Mohammedan Sporting head coach Andrey Chernyshov reconsiders decision to step down
Mohammedan Sporting head coach Andrey Chernyshov has reconsidered his decision to step down from his role, two of the Indian Super League (ISL) club’s investors, BunkerHill Pvt. Ltd. and Shrachi Sports, confirmed on Thursday.
Chernyshov, who led Mohammedan Sporting to the I-League title last year, resigned from his post at the club on Wednesday due to non-payment of salaries.
“I wanted to build a strong team that, in a few seasons, could compete for the highest positions in the ISL. But to my great regret, I have to leave my post. I am a high-level professional coach; I came to your country to deliver good results, but I have a contract that clearly states the conditions the club must fulfil. As a professional, I cannot work for three months without receiving a salary,” he wrote on social media.
However, both BunkerHill and Shrachi Sports, in a joint statement, said that the Russian has reversed his decision after a “constructive and heartfelt discussion.” “Chernyshov has been instrumental in shaping MSC’s ISL campaign, and his dedication to the team’s growth has been invaluable. We deeply appreciate his contributions and sincerely hope that he will continue to guide MSC towards greater success, furthering the development of both the club and its players,” it read.
“We are also pleased to share that substantial progress has been made regarding the issuance of shares to the investors. The legal teams of all parties involved are actively collaborating to finalise this process, and we are confident that this issue will be resolved promptly,” it added.
