Manchester United confirms cruciate ligament injury for defender Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that its defender Lisandro Martinez suffered a cruciate ligament injury, during a Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace earlier this week.

The club, through an official statement, also shared that the injury is being assessed which will determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for Martinez’s rehabilitation.

Martinez sustained the injury as he stretched to make a challenge on Palace forward Ismaila Sarr in the 76th minute of the Sunday match.

The 27-year-old Martinez was in tears as he left the field at Old Trafford to applause from United fans. His side was losing the game 1-0 at the time.

Martinez had an injury-hit campaign last season, including time out with knee ligament damage.
