Marcus Stoinis announces retirement from One-Day Internationals
Australia international Marcus Stoinis on Thursday announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals with immediate effect to focus on T20 cricket.
“Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I’ll always cherish,” Stoinis said in a statement.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I’ve got a fantastic relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald) and I’ve hugely appreciated his support,” he added.
The 35-year-old was named in Australia’s provisional squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan but will not be taking part in the tournament.
His last ODI appearance came against Pakistan in Perth in November 2024. In 71 matches, Stoinis picked 48 wickets and scored 1,495 runs. Stoinis was part of Australia’s ODI World Cup title in 2023 and was voted the country’s ODI cricketer of the year in 2018-19.
