Manoj Bharathiraja’s tragic death mourned by the Tamil film industry

Actor Manoj Bharathiraja, son of veteran Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja tragically passed away on March 25, 2025 evening, sending shockwaves across the Tamil filmdom. Manoj famous for movies like his debut Taj Mahal (1999), Samudhiram (2001), Alli Arjuna (2002), and the very recent Maanaadu (2021), his final film Viruman (2022) was 48 at the time of his passing. 

 

Manoj Bharathiraja had recently undergone bypass surgery, and was recuperating at his home in Chetpet when he suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday. The actor is survived by his wife and former actress Nandana, and two daughters – Arthika, Mathivadani.  

 

The Tamil film industry including top stars like Vijay, Suriya, Karthi, filmmakers Mani Ratnam, KS Ravikumar, and former actor turned Tamil Nadu’s deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, gathered at Chennai to pay their last respects to Manoj. Messages of condolences have also been pouring in from the Tamil film fraternity on X.
