Suriya, Venky Atluri’s 796 CC to begin shooting soon?

Actor Suriya is gearing up for the release of his home production Retro this May 1, 2025, and the actor is also part of another untitled project—Suriya 45—under his cousin SR Prabhu’s production. The Tamil star is also soon expected to begin shooting of Vaadivaasal, his long pending project with director Vetrimaaran and producer Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations.

Suriya has also been buzzed to be part of a new movie titled 796 CC, which is to be directed by Telugu director Venky Atluri of Lucky Bhaskar (Telugu) and Vaathi (Tamil) fame. Buzz has it that 796 CC will begin shooting as early as June or July this year.

Touted to be a movie on the iconic 796 CC engine, that revolutionized Indian automobiles in the 80s and 90s, and powered Maruti cars for 40 years in India, this Suriya-Venky Atluri film is expected to release in Summer 2026. Produced by Naga Vamsi under the Sithara Entertainments banner, the movie is expected to capture the journey of the 796 CC powered cars, and their impact on the Indian automobile market.

796 CC would mark Suriya’s return to Telugu films after Rakta Charitra 2 (2010). Actress Bhagyashri Borse, and music composer GV Prakash Kumar have previously been linked to the project. It is worth mentioning here that Venky Atluri, for his collaboration with Suriya had narrated the actor two scripts796 CC and a heist thriller—but seemingly 796 CC is the one taking off per actor Suriya’s choice.
