Bangladesh lost five wickets inside the PowerPlay during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against India in Dubai on Thursday.
This is the third occasion that Bangladesh has lost five wickets within the first 10 overs of an ODI and the first time against India. The other two instances were against Afghanistan (2012) and West Indies (2015).
Bangladesh lost opener Soumya Sarkar in the first over when Mohammed Shami induced an edge straight to the keeper. In the next over, Harshit Rana removed captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for a two-ball duck. In the seventh over, Shami struck again to have Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught at first slip..
Axar Patel picked up two back-to-back wickets in the ninth over as both Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were caught behind. However, Axar was denied a hat-trick when Rohit Sharma dropped Jaker Ali at first slip.
Bangladesh finished the PowerPlay at 39 for five after winning the toss and opting to bat.
