DC vs UPW, WPL 2025 Highlights: Harris hat-trick, Henry pyrotechnics, Kranti four-fer help UP Warriorz beat Delhi Capitals by 33 runs
UP Warriors has opened its account in style. After Chinelle Henry’s blistering knock, midfields were aplenty for the Warriorz side but Kranti Goud’s four-fer and Grace Harris’ heroic hat-trick means the team beats Delhi Capitals by 33 runs, the first team to defend successfully this season.

Ecclestone returns. Shikha sweeps it behind deep backward square leg for a single. Unable to time the ball, Niki and Shikha having to run hard. Ecclestone keeps the damage minimal. Just four runs.
Deepti to bowl out. Keeping them to singles. Niki and Shikha finding the gaps in the deep. Waoted enough and Shikha smacks it straight down for FOUR! Skips down and drives it deep to the off side for a single.
Henry returns. FOUR! Shikha pulls it to safety and finds a boundary. Niki on strike and that’s’s a SIX! Short and Niki pulls it over deep square leg. Back-to-back FOURs! Scoops it past short fine leg and hammers the next one straight down.
Bryce is outfoxed by Deepti and Uma has followed through with a stumping. That’s another wicket and DC in big trouble now.

Timeout. Shikha Pandey and Niki Prasad are at the crease and are yet to face a ball. Plenty of confusion among the two but they see out the over.
Kranti is back. Too short and Jonassen smashes it over mid-off for a FOUR! Gets the length right and Jonassen mistimes that. High up and Kranti takes the catch, but may have hurt her fingers here. Her third of the day.

Sarah Bryce on the attack immediately. Width to worth with and that runs away behind square for FOUR! Jemimah moves back a smidge but doesn’t get enough. Kranti has done it again and Deepti ensures the young bowler gets her fourth wicket.

Jess Jonassen is the new batter. On the wickets and defended to point. Hits it to mid-off and hands the strike to Jemimah. Plucking out the gaps on the leg side to run hard for doubles. A dot to end the over.
Tahlia McGrath into the attack. Jemimah brings up her fifty with a FOUR through covers! Cut through to sweeper cover for one. Sutherland tries to place it past long on but Henry does well to stop it. Nine runs off the over.
Ecclestone with the ball. In the gaps for FOUR! Jemimah makes some room and thumps it through covers. Scampers down the track for two runs and follows it with an inside-out shot for FOUR! Annabel Sutherland faces her first ball. On the back foot and defended for a single.
Henry returns. Jemimah takes a step down and hammers it straight over the bowler for a SIX! Uses the height and width and plops it behind third for a FOUR! DROPPED! SAIMA THAKOR, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! Jemimah doesn’t get enough on it and finds deep cover who cannot hold on. Kapp on strike. Swing and a miss! Another one lofted high but no distance on it. Ecclestone tracks it well and grips on to it.

Deepti to Jemimah, cut past cover point for FOUR! Mistimes the pull to deep mid wicket for a single. Kapp goes to the left of Deepti and gets a run. Inside out over covers for a FOUR! One more single and that’s 11 runs.

OUT! SAIMA THAKOR HOLDS ON TO THIS! Third time lucky. But Shafali has run out of lives. Kranti strike again and gets the other opener.

Marizanne Kapp comes in. Threads it behind point but Saima covers enough ground to keep it to two runs. Nasty bouncer! Another one and that’s too high! Uma throws it at the stumps but Kapp’s bat was grounded. Uses the free hit for a FOUR!
Skipper Deepti Sharm with the ball. Another replay of the stumping miss! Shafali comes down the track and misses but Uma just cannot get a hold of the ball. Another chance for Shafali. Jemimah whacks it straight to Deepti but ball the bounces off her fingers. DC has somehow scored four singles for the loss of no wickets.
Kranti continues. Shafali strikes it to backward square leg for a single. Jemimah unable to connect with the ball. Swings and misses! Finds the point fielder on the next. Gets it past point on the next but has to settle for one.
Grace Harris to bowl the last over of the PowerPlay. Jemimah scoops it behind and Vrinda chases it down. Mistimes her dive and ends up nudging it to the ropes for FOUR! A couple of singles and Jemimah is back on strike. Edged but can’t be collected by Uma behind. Another edge and Vrinda cannot get there on time to stop it from FOUR!
Kranti Gupta into the attack. Thick edge but runs away to third man fence for FOUR! Beaten on the next. OUT! The bails are dislodged!
Meg Lanning b Goud 5 (5)
Jemimah Rodrigues comes in at 3. Cuts it to the off side and takes a single to get off the mark.
Ecclestone to Shafali, slaps it to point who does well to stop it. Cuts the shorter with intent and it pierces through covers for FOUR! Goes the other way this time and beats the running deep mid-wicket fielder on the bounce. Dropped again! Saima Thakor again! A slightly difficult one but hands them another chance nevertheless.
Henry continues, Lanning drives it behind point for a single. Shorter and Shafali gets just enough height on it to go over short third, that’s FOUR! Wide. Plenty of height on this one but not enough power. Lands short of the ropes and gets two runs. A single to end the over.
Spin immediately, Sophie Eccelstone into the attack. Loud appeal for lbw! Shafali looked to flick it behind but misses and it hit on the thigh. Too much height on it and UPW has lost an early review. FOUR! Leading edge and runs away to third man fence. Another chance! Shafali skips down the track but is beaten. Uma cannot collect the ball and she is frustrated with herself. Just the boundary off this crazy over.
Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning at the crease. Chinelle Henry with the ball. Dropped! Saim Thakor drops a sitter at point. Shafali gets another chance. Driven down for a single. Lanning cant break through the off side.
That was some innings! UP Warriorz looked in trouble but Chinelle Henry swooped in to take the team to the 170s. UPW did receive ample help from the DC misfields and extras.
What can DC do here? It’s a tough total and the team has been one to take the game to the end. Action will begin soon!

THAT’S THE JOINT-FASTEST FIFTY FOR CHINELLE HENRY IN 18 BALLS! She has single-handedly saved UPW. A couple of singles and the game-changer is back on strike. Too wide from Arundhati and that’s another extra.
Sutherland with the ball. Ecclestone cuts it to backward point. No run taken. Finds a single to deep backward square leg and dangerous Henry is on strike. Full and wide, Henry hammers it into the off side for a FOUR! Shorter and Henry cannot connect. Last ball to Eccletone and she joins in on the fun. FOUR! Pulls it to an empty deep square region.
Shikha to bowl out. Ecclestone gets a thick edge that goes through the hands of Arundhati at short third for FOUR! Henry displaying her power again, slashed over extra cover for FOUR! Overstepped, and that’s a free hit! Henry did not waste the opportunity and that’s a SIX! Uses the feet and gets a lot of power to go over long-on. Another one, this time over long off. It’s raining SIXES! Much shorter on the last one and ends with a dot. EXPENSIVE OVER – 24 runs.
Jonassen returns. Going down leg and called wide. ANOTHER EXPENSIVE DROP! Kapp lets it slip through her fingers in the deep, and gives Henry another chance. McGrath with no timing on that, lands safely in Sutherland’s hands. OUT!

Shikha returns. Fuller to Uma who finds a single at sweeper cover. McGrath pushes to long on for a run. OUT! length ball, just outside off, Uma gets an edge on it and Bryce collects it safely. UPW in big trouble.

Shweta Sehrawat comes in. Jonassen goes around the wicket. Goes down leg too and that’s called wide. McGarth ends the over with a FOUR! Driven inside out through covers.
Sutherland continues. Toying with the length and gets it too wide. Has to bowl again. McGrath cuts it to the off side and Kapp collects it but looks like her shoe was in contact with the boundary cushions. FOUR! And UPW will take it. Two more singles to end the over. Strategic timeout.
Jess Jonassen into the attack. Deepti gets down on one knee and sweeps it with intent but has to settle for a single to deep backward square leg. Dropped! DC just unable to hold on to catches! A thick top edge to Minnu at deep backward square leg. Commits the mistake again, handing McGrath another chance.
Spoke too soon. Kiran has to go. Arundhati Reddy strikes immediately! Attempt to pull again but Niki Prasad wasn’t going to let that go. Runs in from deep backward square leg and takes a good catch.

Tahlia McGarth starts with a statement FOUR! Flicks it fine behind for a boundary to get off the mark. A few singles and that’s seven runs this over.
Annabel Sutherland replaces Shikha. FOUR! Second ball to Kiran and that’s powered over long-off. Much straighter and leaves Kiran struggling for space. A couple of dots and Kiran is at it once again. High up but no one can get under it! She’s getting a lot of chances here today. Hopefully she can make them count.
Kapp to Deepti, defended to short cover. Length and on the stumps, pulled to deep mid-wicket. Deepti still in search of that elusive single to get off the mark and Kapp is making her work for it. Going down leg and Deepti gets some bat on it to guide it behind all the way for FOUR! Called four byes. Down leg again, goes for FOUR again! Deepti pulls it fine, just past the diving keeper.
Shikha continues. Sticking to the off-stump lin to Kiran just to tempt her to miscue one. Gets the length wrong, shorter and gone for FOUR! Goes for the pull but a top edge is sufficient to roll away to the ropes. Just the boundary this over. Shikha doesn’t let Kiran get into form.
Kapp returns and another chance! Vrinda miscues the scoop and the ball lands just short of a diving Bryce again. Swing and a miss on the next one. BIG SHOUT! Lanning, at slip, takes the review immediately. There’s a spike and that’s OUT! DC finally claims a wicket after two failed attempts

Shikha Pandey up against big-hitter Kiran. A fuller-length ball and swinging in but Kiran drags it to mid on. A tad shorter and plenty of inswing, easy picking for Kiran to whack it to the left of mid off for FOUR! Just holds on the pitch to beat Kiran’s big swing. An impatient Kiran goes for it and whacks the ball high up. But DROPPED! HUGE MISS! Minnu runs backwards but can’t hold on to the ball.
Marizanne Kapp to start the proceedings. Drifting onto Kiran’s pads who pulls it away to deep backward square leg. Arundhati Reddy in the deep, does well to keep it to a single. Vrinda on strike, defends the the length ball to cover. Beatn on the next. Shorter and punished! FOUR! Vrinda pulls with her body over square leg and Arundhati couldn’t get there. Way too wide and misses the diving keeper, that’s five wides. Two dots but that’s 10 coming off the first over.

Meg Lanning: We feel that we improved in the last game and we’re looking to do the same tonight. It feels like the pitch will suit our game. Nice to get back on the winning side of things. Have to play well again tonight.

Yesterday was a tight first game to start the Bengaluru leg of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. But a spectacular one at that!
