IND vs PAK: Babar Azam completes 1000 runs in ICC ODI tournaments during Champions Trophy 2025 match against India

Babar Azam became the third Pakistan batter to complete 1,000 runs in ICC One-Day International tournaments during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against India in Dubai on Sunday.

Azam reached the milestone in his 24th innings with a sumptuous drive to the cover boundary off Harshit Rana’s bowling. Saeed Anwar and Javed Miandad are the only other Pakistan batters to score 1,000 or more runs in ICC ODI events.

Azam was eventually dismissed for 23 runs off 26 balls by Hardik Pandya in the ninth over after Pakistan elected to bat.

The 30-year-old had scored a sluggish 90-ball 64 against New Zealand in the tournament opener, sparking criticism surrounding his dismal strike rate as Pakistan fell short by 60 runs in a 321-run chase. The former skipper has been short of runs of late in international cricket, with his last century coming in August 2023 against Nepal.

Azam was recently dropped from the Test team during the series against England at home. He made a roaring comeback during the Test series in South Africa with three half-centuries in four innings before managing only 45 runs in four innings in the home Tests against West Indies.
