India vs Bangladesh HIGHLIGHTS, Champions Trophy 2025: IND beats BAN by 6 wickets; Gill scores 8th ODI century

India vs Bangladesh HIGHLIGHTS, Champions Trophy 2025: IND beats BAN by 6 wickets; Gill scores 8th ODI century

One of my most satisfying hundreds, and my first in an ICC tournament. Me and Rohit bhai thought cutting the ball was not easy. I thought of using my feet to clear the infield against the pacers. When the spinners came on, Me and Virat bhai knew it was not easy to pick singles of the front foot. We thought of rotating the strike and picking singles off the backfoot. The message from the dugout was to bat till the end when the pressure mounted after the quick wickets.

It was a far more awkward chase than India what would have liked but Shubman Gill’s eighth ODI century got the side over the line pretty comfortably in the end. Rohit Sharma gave a brisk start to the chase but a flurry of wickets through the middle order resulted in a bit of that momentum fizzling out. But KL Rahul joined Gill and ensured there were no more hiccups for the runner-up from the 2017 edition.

Rahul finishes the job with a monstrous six off Tanzim over fine leg.

INDIA WINS BY 6 WICKETS!

Taskin to Gill, one run to covers gets him the hundred! An innings of great restraint which came in clutch for his side. It comes off 125 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes. Just two runs from the over.

SIX! Gill flicks this off his pads and clears the fence. FOUR! Tanzim targets the bodyline but Gill short-arm jabs this behind square. He moves to 99 with a single.

Rahman. FOUR! A superb cut shot by Rahul. Width on offer and Rahul places it past point. Nine runs came in that over.

Tanzim. A single towards deep midwicket and that brings up 200 for India. Another three-run over for India. Both Gill and Rahul are taking their time.

Mustafizur is back. Three more runs added to the total. India now needs 31 runs in 48 balls.

India continues to inch towards the target. It hasn’t accelerated that much but constant singles and doubles has kept the scoreboard moving.

Rishad to Gill, pinches a single with a push to mid on. SIX! Rahul gets to the pitch, and lofts this down the ground. Rahul reads the turn and parries it away from him through point, two runs. A drive through covers on the fifth for one. A jab off his backfoot gets another single for Gill.

Miraz for his penultimate over. Gill drives to long on for one. Rahul with a push to long on as well for the second run from the over. The final single in the over comes to deep midwicket.

Taskin again. DROPPED! Rahul miscues his on-sided heave but Jaker Ali puts down a sitter at deep mid wicket. FOUR! Gill guides this delivery angling down on to the fine leg fence. One run to covers to follow, a bit of yes-no between the batters but they complete the run in the end.

Miraz to continue. Four runs from it. The first two come through point, Rahul’s with a square drive and Gill’s with a cut. Rahul then glides the fourth delivery to long on before Gill clips to deep mid wicket for another run.

Taskin for his seventh over. Rahul gets a single to mid on. Gill with a short-arm jab to deep mid wicket, one run. Rahul plays this delivery on the off stump with soft hands, it is placed perfectly and gets Rahul another single.

Miraz returns to the attack. Two singles each for Rahul and Gill.

Taskin is back. Hasn’t been easy to score in the middle overs for either of the teams. Just three singles in that over.

Tanzim. Gill cuts towards deep third and gets a boundary. Gill pushes the ball towards mid on and steals a quick single.

Rishad to Axar, WICKET! Axar does not read this wrong one, slices this high up in the air and Rishad steps a few paces to his left to get under it.

Axar Patel c & b Rishad 8(12)

KL Rahul comes in next. He gets a single to long off to get off the mark.

Four singles from Rishad’s over.

Tanzim returns for his second spell. FOUR! Axar pulls this short delivery through mid wicket. Six runs from this over.

FOUR! Iyer is able to square drive this ball from Mustafizur past the point fielder. GONE! Iyer is caught at mid off. Is this chase spinning out of India’s control?

Shreyas Iyer c Shanto b Mustafizur 15(17)

Yet again, it is Axar Patel at No. 5 for India.

Two runs from Rishad’s over. Shreyas punches to long off. Gill goes inside out over covers but cannot pick the gap, gets just one off it.

Two singles in this Mustafizur over. Gill clips the fourth delivery off his thigh to deep mid wicket. Iyer drives on the up on the final ball to pick the second single of the over.

Rishad to Iyer. Four singles from the over. Gill gets to his fifty off 69 deliveries in the over.

Mustafizur Rahman back to bowl his fifth. A yes-no between Iyer and Gill could have seen the former caught short at the non-striker’s end. But the throw misses the stumps and Iyer is able to get back into the crease. FOUR! An edge off Iyer’s bat runs through the vacant slip region. One run to close the over, six from it.

Rishad to Gill, a soft push to long on for one. WICKET! Kohli is out on 22 and the wait for 14k will go on. He tries to cut this wide delivery but slices it to the backward point fielder.

Virat Kohli c Sarkar b Rishad 22(38)

Shreyas Iyer at No. 4.

Miraz fires this straight, Gill jabs this down the ground for one. Kohli reaches for this length ball and works it away from outside off towards mid on. FOUR! Kohli ends the over with a boundary. Shuffles wide with the angle and guides it wide of the short fine leg fielder. Seven runs from the over.

Rishad for his third over. Just three singles off this.

Kohli uses the angle from Miraz to work him away through mid wicket and grab a run. Gill waits for the ball to come to him before going down on one knee and pulling it to fine leg. Two runs for Kohli off the final delivery.

Kohli rocks onto his backfoot to dab Rishad’s delivery through mid wicket and pick a single. Gill pulls the fourth for another single. Kohli pockets another single off an inside edge to square leg.

Miraz to continue after the drinks break. Three singles from the over. There’s half-an-appeal against Kohli who is done by the flight and turn, and hit on the pad. But the turn was taking it down the leg stump which saves him.

Rishad Hossain’s leg-spin against Kohli. He tries to cut the first ball but the turn takes it away from his reach. A single off the second to mid wicket. Gill works the fourth delivery towards the on side off his back foot, one run. Kohli punches the penultimate delivery to long on for one. Gill leaves the final delivery.

Miraz into his third over. Four singles from the over as Kohli looks to have found his feet against spin.

Tanzim continues. FOUR! Excellent use of the feet by Gill. He steps out and spanks this over cover for another boundary. Another short-arm jab by Gill, he just manages to clear mid-on and he takes a single.

Miraz will continue. Spinning into Kohli, who tucks the ball behind off the backfoot for a single. Gill gets low to pull this awkwardly behind deep square for a couple to end the over.

Tanzim again. A single for Kohli off the inside half of the bat. Punched to deep point by Gill for one more. Pulled away by Kohli to fine-leg for a single.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz into the attack to bowl his off-spin. Kohli is finally off the mark after 10 balls. Just two singles from the over.

Tanzim continues. Kohli gets an inside edge as he tries to put away a short ball down leg-side away to the boundary. He is lucky to get away with that one though as it went very close to the slip cordon. Six dot balls and Kohli is yet to get off the mark.

Taskin with the ball. Short, Rohit gets a top edge on the pull and the ball lands safely in the deep fine-leg area. A couple of runs for Rohit. Tucked off the pads by Rohit for a couple more. OUT! Rohit steps out, and ends up skying the ball and the point fielder settles under it.

In comes Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma c Rishad Hossain b Taskin Ahmed 41 (36b 7×4)

Change in bowling. Tanzim Hasan Sakib into the attack. A couple of runs for Gill with a gentle push through midwicket. Wide ball going down leg-side and an extra run for India. SIX! Pulled away over deep midwicket by Gill for a glorious maximum. Tanzim under pressure as he bowls another wide down leg-side. FOUR! Gill steps out now and slices the ball over the in-field on the off-side to fetch another boundary.

One more for Mustafizur. FOUR! Tiny bit of width outside off and crashed through cover-point by Rohit. FOUR! Beaitifully placed between cover and point by Rohit and that runs away to the boundary. Fifty runs up for India in exactly eight overs.

Taskin again. FOUR! Full on the pads and flicked through midwicket for a boundary. Six runs from the over.

Mustafizur again. FOUR! Short, Rohit makes room outside off and slaps the ball over cover to the boundary. FOUR! Rohit steps out now and lifts the ball over mid-off for another boundary. FOUR! Inside edge for Rohit as he looks to heave the ball on leg-side and it runs away to the boundary behind square-leg.

Taskin will continue. Beaten! Rohit goes for a drive and the ball shapes away to beat his outside edge. Tucked off the front pad by Rohit for a single after three dot balls in a row. Good stop by Soumya Sarkar at mid-on to save a sure-shot boundary. Just a single from the over.

Mustafizur will continue. FOUR! Tucked off the pads by Rohit and he finds the boundary behind square-leg. Pulled away by Rohit, doesn’t quite time it and will collect a couple in the midwicket region. FOUR! Lifted over mid-on by Rohit and he finds the boundary. That’s 11,000 runs in ODIs for Rohit and he is the second fastest to the mark.

Taskin continues. Width outside off-stump and slashed by Rohit to deep third-man for a single. FOUR! Gill steps down the track and chips this length ball over cover for his second boundary. Inside edge and well stopped by the wicketkeeper to keep it down to a dot ball.

Mustafizur Rahman comes over the wicket to Rohit. He raps him on the pads first ball and a faint appeal for leg-before but not given. This was also pitching outside leg-stump so good for Bangladesh that it did not review this.

Beaten! This one slides across Rohit, who hangs his bat and the ball just misses his outside edge. Beaten again! Rohit is squared up as Mustafizur continues to angle the ball away from him. Beaten again! Rohit now steps out of his crease and misses the ball as this is pitched wider outside off-stump. A single to end the over as Mustafizur strays on leg-stump and Rohit tamely pulls it away behind square.

Taskin Ahmed with the ball. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open. Rohit almost chops on first ball of the innings. He gets an inside edge and the ball misses the stumps and Rohit takes a single. FOUR! Gill brings out his trademark short-arm jab and finds the square-leg boundary.

Though the target is well below par, India knows this innings could have been wrapped up much earlier. Both Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali were handed lives and had Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma held onto their catches, the target would have barely crossed hundred.

That still does not take away from Jaker and Hridoy who added 154 runs for the sixth wicket to give their bowlers something to fight for.

Harshit to bowl the final over. Swiped to deep midwicket by Hridoy and he will not take a single. Another dot ball as Hridoy gets an inside edge onto his leg trying to heave this on leg-side. Full outside off-stump and Hridoy swings and misses. Three dot balls in a row for Harshit. OUT! Bangladesh all out for 228. Hridoy gets a top edge and it is taken by Shami behind square-leg.

Towhid Hridoy c Mohammed Shami b Harshit Rana 100 (118b 6×4 2×6)

Shami bowls out. He starts with a wide outside off-stump. A single for Hridoy at deep point and he gets to his century off 114 balls. He has battled through cramps and tough conditions to bring up a very special maiden ODI hundred and pull his team out of deep trouble. OUT! Fifer for Shami as Tasking holes out at deep midwicket.

Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in for Bangladesh. He somehow survives the last two balls of the over to give Hridoy the strike for the final six balls.

Taskin Ahmed c Shreyas Iyer b Mohammed Shami 3 (6b)

Kuldeep again. Five singles from the over. Hridoy takes a very tight single off the last ball. Literally throws himself over the line to make it on time and is down on his back again.

Shami again. Cut away by Hridoy for a single and he moves to 91. OUT! Tanzim chops on trying to fetch this from wide outside off-stump.

Taskin Ahmed gets an outside edge to third-man and is off the mark with a single. Hridoy slaps the ball straight to the cover fielder and is immediately lying down on his back. He looks to be struggling with cramps and the physio is out again.

There is a long break in play as Hridoy continues to recover. He is back on his feet but is hobbling. Play resumes after a close to five-minute hold-up.

FOUR! Stand and deliver. Hridoy can’t move much so he stands tall and slaps the ball through the gap in the cover region. He keeps strike with a single off the last ball.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib b Mohammed Shami 0 (4b)

Harshit back into the attack. A couple of singles to start the over. Hridoy strolls for a single and is struggling. OUT! Rishad holes out at short third-man. He looked to upper-cut this shortish delivery to the third-man boundary but ended up guiding the ball straight to Hardik inside the circle.

Rishad Hossain c Hardik Pandya b Harshit Rana 18 (12b 1×4 2×6)

Axar is back. Hridoy punches a full toss through cover for a couple of runs. Hridoy takes a quick single next ball and the physio comes out to have a look at him. He looks exhausted. FOUR! Outside edge for Rishad and it beats short third before running away to the boundary. SIX! Hammered by Rishad over deep midwicket for a maximum. SIX! Consecutive sixes for Rishad and 20 runs from the over for Bangladesh.

Kuldeep comes back at the death. India loses a review after the umpire turns down a lbw appeal. Replay shows the ball was pitching outside leg-stump. Just three runs from the over.

Shami again. FOUR! In the slot, heaved away by Hridoy to the midwicket boundary. Harshit Rana dives over the ball and that’s some more sloppy work by India in the field. OUT! India finally gets the breakthrough. Sliced high in the air and taken by Kohli at mid-on. Shami completes 200 wickets in ODIs and is the fastest Indian to get there. Rishad Hossain comes in next.

Jaker Ali c Virat Kohli b Mohammed Shami 68 (114b 4×4)

Hardik will continue. Short and swatted to deep square-leg for a couple by Hridoy. Drifting down leg as Hridoy backs away outside leg-stump and Hardik follows him. Seven runs from the over.

Shami back into the attack. FOUR! Short and pulled away by Jaker to the square-leg fence. Axar tries to stop it with his feet but cannot keep the ball in. FOUR! Now Hridoy gets hold of this back-of-a-length delivery and pulls this over midwicket for another four.

Hardik comes back. Just three singles from the over and Bangladesh will look to go big now in the final 10 overs.

Jadeja goes for 11 runs in the over as Hridoy continues his charge, slog sweeping over deep midwicket for a maximum.

Kuldeep. SIX! Hridoy slogs it away over cover. Nine runs from the over.

Jadeja. Hridoy cuts past short third and gets a four. That’s fifty for him as well and century-run stand between the two.

Kuldeep. Jaker tucks the ball towards fine leg and reaches his fifty. An important half-century for Bangladesh. Four runs from the over.

Jadeja returns. Concedes four singles. Bangladesh will eye more more than 220 runs from here.

Kuldeep is back. A stumping appeal against Jaker. Not much excitement from the Indian camp though. A googly by Kuldeep beat Jaker on that occasion but he grounded his feet quickly to saved himself. Four! Jaker sweeps towards square leg and finds the fence.

Axar. Both Jaker and Hridoy are into 40s. This has been a good partnership for Bangladesh.

Harshit continues. Has been a slow scoring day so far. Six runs came in that over.

Axar is back. Two singles in that over.

Harshit returns. Bangladesh continues to take singles. Four! Finally, a boundary after a long time. Full ball and Jaker drives it straight past mid on.

Shami. Jaker cuts towards deep third and Bangladesh reaches the 100-run mark. Both batters in their 30s now. Boundaries have completely dried up. Four singles in that over.

Kuldeep continues from the other end. Five dot balls and a single off the final delivery towards deep square leg.

Shami is back. Scoring is hovering around 3.6 at the moment. Bangladesh needs to find ways to score boundaries which it is struggling to get right now.

Kuldeep. India continues to control the scoring rate. However, both these batters have done well to rebuild the innings and take the game forward for Bangladesh.

Jadeja continues to attack the stumps and quickly goes through his over once again. Only two singles off it.

Kuldeep. Jaker looking proactive on crease, using his feet and keeping sweep shots in play. Jaker slog sweeps towards midwicket, good fielding in the deep keeps it down to just a single.

Jadeja. A stumping opportunity missed by Rahul. Jaker was beaten off the inside edge and the ball went past the leg stump. Rahul wasn’t able to grab the ball while Jaker was out of the crease for a bit.

Kuldeep. He is using the dip to beat Jaker, who is looking to sweep the ball. A very good over by Kuldeep, just a single from it.

Jadeja again. Continues to attack the stumps. Hridoy and Jaker have done well to rebuild Bangladesh’s innings, working the ball around the ground. Four runs from the over.

Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. A single for Jaker with a drive down the ground. Kuldeep oversteps. FOUR! Hridoy slog sweeps the free hit and picks a much needed boundary. A single off the next delivery through covers. Jaker picks a run through covers. DROPPED! Hridoy whacks this down the ground but this is headed straight to Hardik Pandya at mid on who cannot hold onto it.

Four singles from Axar’s over. Hridoy starts with a push to mid on. Jaker and Hridoy pick two singles through covers before Jaker hits behind square to get the fourth run of the over.

Hridoy works Jadeja’s full delivery off his pads, picks a single through mid wicket. Jaker gives ramp sweep a try, misses. Just the single off the over.

Three singles from Jadeja’s over. Axar follows it up with a maiden.

FOUR! Jaker slashes against Axar, this is wide enough for the edge to travel past the slip fielder but fine enough to beat backward point. Seven runs from the over.

Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Jaker pushes the first delivery to mid off for one. Hridoy works the fourth to mid on and pockets a single. Jaker sweeps the fifth for a couple.

Axar to Jaker, pushes through covers and runs one. CHANCE! Hridoy looks to defend but the ball passes between his bat-pad. Rahul fumbles the ball and has half-a-try at stumping him but Hridoy is well inside his crease.

Hardik again. An inside edge for Jaker, runs to fine leg and the batters pick one. FOUR! Hridoy gets on his toes and cuts this away past point. Seven runs from the over.

Axar again. Jaker on strike with two slips in place. Gets a single to fine leg. Hridoy punches through covers for another run. Jaker gets on his backfoot and hits the final delivery through point, one run.

Hardik Pandya for his first over. Three runs from the over, two of which were courtesy of wides outside off.

Axar Patel replaces Shami. WICKET! Axar comes around the wicket to Tanzid, the second one is angled across and as Tanzid tries to cut it, he gets a soft edge to the keeper.

Tanzid Hasan c Rahul b Axar 25(25)

Another WICKET! Axar sends this darting outside off, Mushfiqur Rahim prods forward to defend this but does not quite get in the line. An edge to the keeper and Bangladesh is five down.

Mushfiqur Rahim c Rahul b Axar 0(1)

AXAR ON A HAT-TRICK! DROPPED! An edge for Jaker Ali on his first delivery but Rohit cannot hold onto it at first slip. Rohit is livid with himself, Axar wears a wry smile as the chance goes begging.

Harshit unveils a celebrappeal as Hridoy glances to the keeper down the leg. He thinks there is an edge but Rahul talks him out of taking a DRS. The replays show there was just the thigh pad on that. Hridoy flicks this full toss through mid wicket for three runs. FOUR! Another slower one, but Tanzid is down his crease and able to get enough power to take this delivery over mid off and to the boundary. Tanzid clips the next to deep square for one.

Shami for his fourth over. CAUGHT AT SLIP! Mehidy chases this wide delivery, slashes rather, gets a thick edge to Shubman Gill at first slip.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz c Gill b Shami 5(10)

Towhid Hridoy at No. 5. Hridoy tries to cut the fifth delivery, there’s not enough room on this and it dies into the ground. A single to third man on the final delivery.

Tanzid facing Harshit, he tries to drive this but the shot is not timed, gets it off his inside edge to mid wicket for a single. Mehidy edges to third man for one run. Tanzid is deceived by the slower one, his straight drive goes too high but just long enough to beat mid on, two runs off that one.

Shami again. FOUR! Tanzid picks the length early and stays on his backfoot, picks this over mid on. He gets a single to deep square on the third delivery. FOUR! Too full and Mehidy drills this through covers. Mehidy defends the final delivery.

Harshit to Tanzid from over the wicket, two slips waiting. Harshit angles the first delivery across the left hander, beats the edge. Tanzid tries to pull the second, nearly chops it onto his stumps. Tanzid flicks the fourth, a slower one, to mid on and sets off. Kuldeep Yadav cannot collect it which allows the batters to complete the run safely. A mix up! Mehidy clips but Rahul at square leg is onto it in a flash. Tanzid was out of his crease and had to jaunt back. Rahul takes a hit, misses it by a whisker.

Shami to Tanzid. FOUR! Tanzid gets room and the right length to loft this over covers. FOUR again! Gives this a charge and whacks it through covers. A quick single to mid on to finish the over.

Najmul Hossain Shanto in at No. 3.

Harshit Rana to Tanzid now. He cuts the second delivery from close to his body, gets it to third man for a single. WICKET! Shanto drives wide of his body and gets this straight to Virat Kohli at covers.

Najmul Hossain Shanto c Kohli b Rana 0(2)

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the new batter. The first delivery thuds into his thigh pad after pitching. Harshit ends the over with a bouncer. Mehidy is out of sorts in fending at this.

Shami to Tanzid from around the wicket. A length delivery, Tanzid gets an inside edge to fine leg and completes a single. Wide outside off, Sarkar has a poke but misses. Sarkar shoulders arms to the third. The fourth delivery moves in sharply, just misses the top of the stumps. GONE! The final delivery brings India a wicket. Sarkar has a wild swing outside off and gets a thin edge.

Soumya Sarkar c Rahul b Shami 0(5)

Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan walk out to the middle. Mohammed Shami will bowl the first over for India.

The umpires walk out, followed by both the teams. The players make their way to the centre for the national anthems.

It is India’s anthem first up.

Rohit Sharma and Najmul Hossain Shanto are in the middle for the toss.

Bangladesh wins the toss and elects to bat. Rohit says he would have fielded first anyway so both captains are happy.

Najmul Hossain Shanto: We would like to bat first. Looks like a good wicket so we want to put runs on the board. We have played good cricket today and the boys are confident. Three spinners, two spinners for us.

Rohit Sharma: I would have fielded first. We have played a few years back here so we felt ball comes on better under lights. All looking good. Everyone is fit and fine to go. Let’s hope we start well. There is no looking back. Every game becomes very important in this tournament. Only Varun [Chakaravarthy] misses out from the last ODI we played. [Ravindra] Jadeja comes back and Arshdeep [Singh] misses and [Mohammed] Shami comes back.

The straight boundary is 82m long, and the square boundaries are 72m and 84m. It is a fresh pitch for this game, says Nasser Hussain. There are some cracks on the surface. There has been no dew at the venue this year so far.

“When you are in Dubai , you can’t be far off from Ajith fans,” quips S. Dipak Ragav.

“One of the side pitches for India vs Bangladesh game.. so one side is going to be a very short boundary and a something to think for the captains on how to handle the spinners,” S. Dipak Ragav tweets from the DICS.

Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Mustafizur Rahman.
