India vs Pakistan highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: Virat Kohli scores 51st century, IND beats PAK by six wickets
“I have a decent understanding of my game, it is about keeping the outside noise away, staying in my space and taking care of my energy levels and thoughts. Very easy to get pulled into the expectations.”
Here’s what Kohli said after receiving the Player of the Match award:
Khushdil now. Kohli takes a single. Axar gives the strike back. Kohli hits a four and he gets to his century!! India completes a very comfortable win by six wickets and more than seven overs in hand.
Shaheen. Down the leg wide and Rizwan isn’t able to grab it. Axar takes a single. Kohli pulls towards midwicket and takes a double. He’s in his 90s now. Another wide by Shaheen. Kohli hits long and over mid on but ball doesn’t find the fence, two runs. Another two for Kohli off the next ball. Kohli takes a quick single off the last ball.
Agha Salman is back. Kohli attempts a sweep, there’s an appeal for LBW. Pakistan has reviewed. There’s an inside edge. Not out.
Axar Patel is the new man in. He’s off the mark with a single.
Shaheen is back. Hardik comes down the track and hits the ball over cover for four! Hardik comes down the track again, goes over mid on and gets a double. Pandya takes a single now. Kohli pulls and gets a single. OUT! Pandya is strangled down the leg. He went for a pull but gets a glove. He falls for eight.
Khushdil is back. Kohli tries to slog sweep but is beaten; a half-hearted appeal follows. Iyer comes down the track and smacks the ball over the bowler’s head for four! OUT! Iyer is caught, an absolute stunner. He tries to hit through the cover, but Imam there dived to his right and grabs the ball in the air. Iyer falls after scoring 56 off 67.
Hardik Pandya is the new man in. Takes a single off the first ball.
Rauf. Century partnership between Iyer and Kohli. This has been absolute domination. Iyer and Kohli are doing it with singles. Eight runs from that over.
Abrar. Shreyas takes a single and gets to his fifty off 63 balls.
Haris Rauf is back. Iyer takes a single. Kohli pushes the ball towards cover and the batters go for a double. Throw from the deep and if it had hit the stumps directly, Iyer was gone. Short ball and Kohli pulls towards square leg for four! Flick of the wrist by Kohli and another double towards midwicket.
Abrar continues. Four singles from the over as Shreyas and Kohli are not in any rush.
Naseem into the attack now. A tight single for Kohli first ball as the point fielder makes a good stop. A wide down leg-side next ball. Punched behind point by Shreyas for one more. Pulled away by Shreyas to fine-leg for another single. A couple for Shreyas as he swipes across the line to deep square-leg.
Abrar Ahmed comes back. This could be the last throw of the dice for Pakistan. Shreyas takes this straight delivery on the full and puts it away to deep square-leg with a reverse-sweep for a single.
FOUR! Shreyas cuts this away behind point to the boundary as Khushdil continues. Shreyas goes for a reverse-sweep outside off two balls later and misses it completely.
Salman replaces Shaheen. SIX! That’s a huge hit from Shreyas. He steps out and hammers this over deep midwicket and a long way into the stands.
Khushdil again. FOUR! Shreyas brings out the reverse-sweep and finds the boundary behind point. FOUR! Shreyas now sweeps behind the keeper to find the boundary. DROPPED! Shreyas pulls this short delivery and dropped by Shakeel at short midwicket. Shreyas gets a reprieve on 25.
FOUR! Shaheen is back. Around the wicket to Kohli. Lifted over mid-on and the ball plugs in the outfield and just manages to trickle to the boundary. Shaheen now comes over the wicket. Short and slanting away and guided to deep third for a single. A couple of twos to end the over and 150 up for India in 29 overs.
Khushdil continues. Four singles from the over. Both Kohli and Shreyas looking comfortable against spin.
FOUR! Fifty for Kohli off 62 balls with that boundary. Kohli lifts this delivery from Naseem over cover for his fourth boundary. Eight runs from the over.
Just a couple of singles from Khushdil’s over.
A single off to long off for Kohli in Abrar’s over. Two singles in the next over from Naseem.
Three singles in this over from Abrar.
Rauf for his fifth over. FOUR! Shreyas unleashes a pull shot against this short delivery. A single for Virat earlier in the over.
Rauf again. FOUR! A bouncer attempted at Virat who swivels and hooks this through fine leg and picks a boundary. A single on the very next ball through covers. Six runs from the over.
Kohli comes onto his front foot to defend against Abrar, gets an edge to mid wicket and runs one. Shreyas picks one through to long off. That’s the only two runs in the over.
Rauf back into the attack. Kohli guides the first to third man for one. Shreyas punches through backward point for another run. One more single to third man for Kohli. The fifth comes in sharply to Shreyas, he gets an inside edge to fine leg for a single. Kohli drives wide of mid off to make it five runs in the over.
BOWLED HIM! Abrar gets rid of the danger man Gill. This was a carrom ball which Gill tried to play off his backfoot, gets beaten and sees his stumps rearranged.
Shubman Gill b Abrar 46(52)
Shreyas Iyer is the new man and he gets off the mark with a single to deep cover. Virat with a punch to long off for another run.
Khushdil to continue. Six singles off six deliveries in this over – three for Kohli and three for Gill.
Kohli tries to play Abrar’s length ball off his backfoot, gets an inside edge to fine leg which allows him two runs. A single on the penultimate delivery through covers. Gill gets a single through long on.
Three singles from Abrar’s over.
Khushdil Shah into the attack now. He starts by giving just two runs.
Rauf to Kohli, driven through covers for two runs. FOUR! 14,000 runs for Virat Kohli! Leans into this shot and drives it past mid off. A single off the third ball to deep cover. Three runs for Gill with a clip through mid wicket. Gill in a bit of a trouble due to cramps. FOUR more! Whacks it through covers to make it 14 runs from the over.
Now the leg spin of Abrar Ahmed. A single for Virat to deep cover. Gill places the fifth delivery to long on for a single. A punch to long on for Kohli makes it three from the over.
Haris Rauf into the attack now. Virat tucks the second delivery to fine leg for two runs. EDGE! Virat does not get in line of this one and gets an edge towards third man. He must have taken a huge sigh of relief upon seeing the ball land short. DROPPED! Gill short-arm jabs this delivery through mid wicket where Khushdil cannot hold onto the chance. Was a tough chance to be fair, it was smoked and travelling at quite some speed.
Just a single for Virat in this over from Naseem. India all done with its PowerPlay and establishes a stranglehold on the chase.
Shaheen to Virat, on the pads, whips it through square leg. Virat is off in a flash and adamant on two runs. Gill has to scamper through eventually at the non-striker’s end but he gets in safely. A wide and a run on the next as Rizwan fails to gather this. FOUR! Gill with a gentle punch through extra covers. GILL! Steps down the wicket and lofts this right back over Shaheen’s head for FOUR. A full toss on the final one which Gill clips to fine leg for one before an overthrow gets him a second off it.
Naseem to Virat, clips off his pad for two runs. A single on the fourth delivery through covers.
Shaheen goes full to Gill, searching for another inswinger but Gill is fluent with his on-drive and picks two runs. FOUR now! A short-arm jab on this short delivery. FOUR! Class oozing through this straight drive from Gill. He waits still and creams this through mid off. FOUR again! Shaheen nearly squares him up here, but Gill’s leading edge beats point and races to the fence.
Naseem for his third over. A single for Gill off the final delivery.
Shaheen to continue. Gill slashes outside off gets an edge over the cordon, one run to third man. FOUR! Not quite in complete control over this shot, he loses his bottom hand on this lofted drive but gets enough on this to sail well over the infield. GONE! An inswinging yorker from Shaheen which breaches Rohit’s gate.
Rohit Sharma b Afridi 20(15)
Naseem goes stump-to-stump, Rohit flicks this to fine leg. On the up to Gill from back of a length, glances it away for a single. FOUR! Rohit steps down the wicket and chips this over mid off. Naseem with a slower delivery which gets Rohit to go early into his pull, beaten.
Shaheen to Gill, FOUR! Gill attempts to drive this through covers but gets it to the fine leg fence off an inside edge. Shaheen tries to go wide to Gill, but the batter leaves it alone to the keeper. FOUR! Gill crunches this through covers, this one comes from the middle.
Naseem Shah to Rohit, dot ball, shapes it away from outside off, Rohit taps to point. FOUR! Rohit makes room on the third but Naseem follows him and bangs this in, the across-the-line heave takes an edge and flies over slip. SIX! On the pads and Rohit pummels this away behind square. He’s beaten on the outside edge on the fifth delivery. The last delivery rises on Rohit, punches it away to covers.
Shaheen Afridi to bowl the first over. Rohit Sharma on strike.
A wide opens the account for India. Rohit clips the second delivery of his pads for one. Four dots for Shubman Gill.
Another meek performance with the bat by Pakistan. It lost its last eight wickets for just 90 runs. Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan added 104 runs for the third wicket, but just as they started to inject some momentum into their partnership, they fell in quick succession. From there on, there was hardly any fight shown by the rest of the batters, barring Khushdil Shah. India should back itself to get 242, but this could be a tricky surface, as India learnt during the run-chase against Bangladesh.
We will be back with the run-chase in about 30 minutes. Stay tuned!
Harshit to bowl the final over. Khushdil on strike. A couple of dot balls as Khushdil doesn’t want to take the single. Slower yorker and Khushdil can’t even put bat on ball. Three dot balls to start the final over. OUT! Khushdil is caught at deep midwicket and Pakistan folds for 241.
Khushdil Shah c Virat Kohli b Harshit Rana 38 (39b 2×6)
SIX! Shami is greeted with a maximum. Khushdil stays still in his crease and pulls this over deep midwicket for a maximum. Cracking shot. SIX! Banged short and Rauf pulls this over deep square-leg for a maximum. Swung away on the leg-side by Rauf to deep midwicket. He hares for a second and looks like he is run out at the non-striker’s end.
Haris Rauf run out (Axar Patel/KL Rahul) 8 (7b)
Harshit replaces Shami. Haris Rauf the new man in. Five runs from the over. A single is on offer off the last ball but Khushdil sends Haris back.
OUT! Chipped by Naseem and Kohli completes a good catch at long-on. Kohli now holds the record for most catches by an Indian fielder in ODIs. That was his 157th catch in the format. Third wicket for Kuldeep.
Naseem Shah c Virat Kohli b Kuldeep Yadav 14 (16b 1×4)
Shami is back. Seven runs from the over, including a leg-bye.
Kuldeep continues. Six runs from the over with the help of ones and twos. Pakistan will at least need another 30 runs off the last five to make a match of this.
Harshit comes back. Around the wicket to Khushdil. A single for the left-hander at deep midwicket. FOUR! Outside edge, past the keeper and a streaky boundary for Naseem. He guides the ball to deep third for a single and keeps the strike.
Kuldeep again. Single for Khushdil and 200 up for Pakistan in 42.4 overs. OUT! Salman is gone. He gets a leading edge after stepping out to heave this on leg-side and Jadeja settles under the ball at cover. OUT! Consecutive wickets for Kuldeep as Shaheen is caught in front of the stumps off the backfoot. Given by the umpire straightway and Shaheen goes upstairs. That was a horrible review as this is hitting middle of middle stump. Naseem Shah comes in and defends the hat-trick ball to deny Kuldeep.
Salman Agha c Ravindra Jadeja b Kuldeep Yadav 19 (24b)
Shaheen Shah Afridi lbw b Kuldeep Yadav 0 (1b)
Axar bowls out. SIX! First maximum of the innings as Khushdil sweeps this over deep midwicket. It looked like it went too high off the top edge but it eventually also went the distance. Axar ends with 1/50 in 10 overs.
Kuldeep comes back. Salman gets a top edge on the reverse-sweep and that falls short of the man at short third. LBW appeal as Salman misses a reverse-sweep. Stifled appeal and Rohit goes upstairs. Salman will survive as this is just kissing leg-stump – umpire’s call goes in Pakistan’s favour. Five singles from the over.
Axar into his ninth over. A couple for Salman through fine-leg. Two more for Salman with a sweep behind square to end the over.
Jadeja will continue. Reverse-sweep from Khushdil through cover. Shreyas and Rohit chase and Shreyas dives to keep it down to three. Rohit looks to be in some discomfort as he clutches his hamstring.
Axar continues. Just three singles from the over.
OUT! Tayyab Tahir is bowled. Good length ball on middle, turns away a touch to beat Tahir’s attempted dab to third-man, and the ball crashes into off-stump.
Khushdil Shah comes in.
Tayyab Tahir b Ravindra Jadeja 4 (6b)
Axar continues. Five singles from the over as Tahir and Salman get in their groove.
Hardik continues. A low full toss and Shakeel misses out on a scoring opportunity, flicking it to mid-on. FOUR! Pulled away to the deep square-leg boundary by Shakeel. OUT! Shakeel holes out at deep midwicket. Two wickets in quick succession and Pakistan has lost both its set batters on the cusp of the death overs.
Tayyab Tahir comes in and is off the mark with a single.
Saud Shakeel c Axar Patel b Hardik Pandya 62 (76b 5×4)
OUT! Axar cleans up Rizwan. Salman Ali Agha is the next man in. DROPPED! Shakeel slog sweeps this high in the air and Kuldeep spills the chance at deep midwicket. That was a very low chance but Kuldeep should have held on to it.
Mohammad Rizwan b Axar Patel 46 (77b 3×4)
Hardik is back. Slow bouncer and that is too high – called wide. Beaten! A cutter outside off stump and it beats Rizwan as he looks to cut it. DROPPED! Launched very high in the air by Rizwan and Harshit Rana drops it at wide long-on.
Axar continues after the drinks break. Just five runs from the over.
Fifth over for Jadeja. FOUR! Scooped behind by Shakeel to the boundary. Shakeel backs away very late and Jadeja fires it into off-stump. The batter apologises.
A single to end the over and that’s 50 for Shakeel, off 63 balls!
Axar is back into the attack. Shakeel misses the reverse-sweep off the last ball of the over. Another appeal, not given, and Rohit will not review.
Jadeja again. Five singles and a loud lbw appeal off the last ball. Umpire doesn’t give it out and Rohit doesn’t take the review. Definitely missing leg-stump as Shakeel missed the flick on leg-side.
Shami comes back. Heaved away by Rizwan and it just falls short of the fielder at midwicket. A quick single by Rizwan, and a direct-hit at the bowler’s end but he has easily made his ground. Shakeel pulls this to deep square-leg for a couple to end the over.
Jadeja will continue. FOUR! Rizwan with a flat-batted sweep and he finds the boundary at deep midwicket. Another sweep next ball and a couple this time for Rizwan.
Kuldeep continues. FOUR! Shakeel reverse sweeps this to the boundary behind point. Hundred up for Pakistan in 25.3 overs. FOUR! Another boundary to end the over. This time it is the conventional sweep through square-leg that fetches Shakeel a boundary.
Jadeja. Rizwan sweeps and finally finds the fence towards square leg! Fifty-run partnership off 91 balls. Five runs came in that over.
Kuldeep. Rizwan attempts sweeps off the first two balls but can’t connect it well. Takes a single off the third ball. Direct hit and Rizwan could’ve been in trouble. But he’s inside the crease, so not out. Four singles in that over
Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Shakeel cuts past point but Kuldeep chases the ball well and doesn’t let it cross the rope, three runs. Four came in that over.
Kuldeep for his third over. Rizwan sweeps to get a single. Shakeel gives him the strike back off the next ball. Three singles off the first four balls. Kuldeep hasn’t found his length today. Shakeel reverse sweeps and takes a quick single.
Harshit for his fifth over. Two consecutive singles off the first two balls. Rizwan defends the third ball to bring normalcy back, a dot. Make it three dot balls on the trot. A single to end the over.
Kuldeep is back. Shakeel sweeps but can only get a single. Kuldeep follows it up with three dot balls. Make it four. A single off the last ball.
Harshit Rana replaces Pandya. Leading edge off Shakeel’s bat but over the cover fielder, just a single. Three singles in that over.
India has put on a choke-hold. Only four runs in the last two overs.
Axar is back. Four! A boundary after 32 balls. Shakeel ramps the ball over keeper, smart shot. Better over for Pakistan as Rizwan, Shakeel rotate the strike on three occasions.
Hardik. Nearly five overs since the last boundary was scored. India has been splendid with the ball: very disciplined. Just two singles in the over.
Shami again. Dot balls are piling up for Pakistan. Just two singles in that over. India has been too good with the ball.
Hardik. Runs have dried up for Pakistan. It is hot as well in Dubai. He’s bowling really well today, Hardik. Beats Rizwan’s outside off the last ball.
Shami is back. Good over by Shami after receiving medical treatment on his right leg. Three runs off the over.
Hardik. India controlling the boundary rate here. Three singles in that over.
Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. OUT! Imam ul Haq is run out trying to steal a quick single. Hit the ball towards mid on and Axar Patel picked the ball and threw directly at the stumps. Imam was well short of the crease. Imam falls for 10 off 26.
Mohammad Rizwan in at four. He’s off the mark with a four off the first ball. Swept away towards square leg. End of PowerPlay.
Hardik. Four!! Another boundary for Babar as he leans on to another cover drive. OUT! Another attempted drive and this time he gets an outside edge straight to keeper. First wicket for India.
Saud Shakeel in at three. Down the leg and Shakeel tucks it away past keeper for four off the first ball. It is given as leg bye. He’s off the mark with a double towards leg side.
Axar Patel into the attack now. Imam gets a single off the first ball. Four! Babar comes down the track and goes over mid on fielder.
So Hardik Pandya is into the attack now as Shami gets a treatment off the field; Washington Sundar in the field for him. Starts well, outside off and Babar is happy to leave. Down the leg wide, eighth wide bowled by Indian bowlers today. Four! Another classic cover drive for four!
Harshit. Beats Imam off the first ball. Another terrific delivery by Harshit and goes very close to the outside edge. He’s bowling well so far, good pace as well. Down the leg wide. Imam comes down the track but isn’t able to time the ball well. Just one run off the over.
Shami. Imam drives wide of mid off and gets a double. Shami has troubled Imam multiple times now, ball going past very close to the outside edge. Shami getting treatment on his right calf. A brief pause. Imam gets a single towards deep third.
Harshit. Babar is taking his time as usual. Full on the pads and Babar flicks towards midwicket for four! Nicely controlled. Shot! Babar Azam takes out his textbook cover drive and sends the ball towards the fence. Eight runs off the over.
Shami. On the pads, Imam pushes towards square leg and gets a double. Better over by Shami so far, shaping the ball away from left-hander. This time Imam puts the bat behind the ball, drives towards extra cover and takes a double. Four runs off the over.
Harshit Rana from the other end. Imam takes a single off the first ball. Now Harshit Rana bowls a down the leg wide to Babar. Harshit keeping the ball in and around the off stump. Babar punches the ball towards mid on and gets a double. Four runs off the over.
Shami to Imam. Length ball and Imam defends. Too wide down the leg by Shami, first runs on the board for Pakistan. Another wide down the leg. Another wide, this time far from off stump. Wide outside off, Imam cuts towards deep third for a single. Another wide, down the leg. Another wide, this time far outside off. Already 10 balls in the over. The over ends in a dot.
Players are out in the middle. Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq in the middle for Pakistan. Mohammed Shami will begin proceedings.
The teams are out on the field now. India’s national anthem followed by Pakistan’s.
