ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC beats Mohammedan Sporting 2-0 to put one foot into playoffs

Jamshedpur FC all but secured a playoff spot with a 2-0 win over host Mohammedan Sporting SC in an Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 fixture at the Kishore Bharati Stadium here on Thursday.

Ritwik Das opened the scoring for Jamshedpur early in the opening half before substitute Nikhil Barla doubled the lead late in the second session. The win helped Jamshedpur get 37 points from 21 matches as it continued in the third spot in the standings.

Mohammedan Sporting, on the other hand, suffered its 14th loss in 21 matches and remained stuck at the bottom of the 13-team table with 11 points.

Ritwik made his return from injury count when he came at the end of a Jamshedpur attack and slotted home the lead in the sixth minute.

The Jamshedpur winger found the opportunity after Javi Hernandes’ side-volley came his way after rebounding off Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Padam Chettri.

Jamshedpur tried to widen the lead but found its latter efforts remaining off target.

The change of ends saw the home side try to regroup but its attempts at fetching the equaliser did not fructify as its attackers faltered in the striking zone.

Jamshedpur head coach Khalid Jamil brought in some late changes, which helped in altering the scoreline once again when substitute Nikhil Barla converted an assist from Imran Khan.
