ISL 2024-25: Out-of-form Chennaiyin looks for home win against Punjab FC

Chennaiyin FC will host Punjab FC in an ISL 2024-25 clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

Lying in 10th and ninth positions, respectively, in the Indian Super League standings with 21 and 24 points, Chennaiyin has four matches remaining while Punjab has five. Both teams will be more than eager to win and hope for other results to go in their favour.

Owen Coyle, Chennaiyin’s head coach, admitted that the team has not fared well at home — it has lost four, drawn four and won just one — and that is one thing he would like to focus on. “…But we want to finish strong. We want to put a smile on the supporters’ faces and win those (three) home games. But to do that, we need to be at our very best. We have not done well in home games. And that’s something we finished really strong doing last year to take us into the playoffs,” he said at a press conference here on Friday.

The 58-year-old Scot praised Punjab FC management for picking some good young players, such as defenders Rakesh Singh (22 years), Abhishek Singh (20), midfielder Ricky John Shabong (22) and forward Muhammad Suhail (18).
