PAK vs NZ: Will Young becomes first centurion of Champions Trophy 2025
New Zealand opener Will Young became the first centurion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the opening match against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday.
He completed his fourth One-Day International century in just 107 deliveries, scoring 12 fours and one six. This was also Young’s maiden century away from home and his 12th in List A cricket.
Young became only the fourth Kiwi batter to register a ton in the Champions Trophy. Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle and Kane Williamson are the other to reach the three-figure mark in the competition.
Young, however, departed on 107 looking to take on Naseem Shah and holing out to Faheem Ashraf at long on. This was the second-highest score by a New Zealand batter in the Champions Trophy.
His effort, along with Tom Latham’s unbeaten 118, got New Zealand to 320 runs in 50 overs.
