Retro: Suriya urges fans to not smoke like he does in the movie

Tamil actor Suriya was recently in Kerala to promote the May 1, 2025 release of his movie Retro, which also stars Malayalam film actors Joju George, and Jayaram. Speaking at the Thiruvananthapuram Lulu Mall event, Suriya urged fans to not pick up smoking, after watching him do the same in the Karthik Subbaraj movie.

Speaking about Retro, Suriya added, “This is a Karthik Subbaraj padam (movie). I am happy to associate with Alphonse Puthren who has made the trailer cut for this film. Karthik Subbaraj has his own genre and style. I have been wanting to work with him for a long time. Everyone knows how we spent those four months shooting for the film like a family. This will be completely different from the 45 films you have seen (me in) before. I really wish that I can have many more associations with Karthik in my life.  I am sure you will all love this (Retro film).”

Retro is Suriya’s maiden collaboration with writer, director Karthik Subbaraj. The movie is jointly produced by the actor-director duo, with Santhosh Narayanan for music, Shreyaas Krishna for cinematography, Shafique Mohamed Ali for edits, Kecha Khamphakdee for stunts, and Pooja Hegde as female lead.
