Saurav Ghosal reaches semifinals of first event since coming out of retirement
In his first tournament since coming out retirement, Indian squash star Saurav Ghosal reached the semifinals of the Octane Sydney Classic on Friday.
Former World No. 10 Ghosal retired from the PSA (Professional Squash Association) Tour in April last year but at the same time, he had said that he still wanted to represent India. On January 1, he again became a member of the PSA Tour to keep his aspirations of playing for country alive.
The 38-year-old Ghosal, seeded second at the PSA Challenger Tour (second-tier of professional circuit) event, got a bye in the first round. He defeated Malta’s Kijan Sultana 3-0 (11-8, 11-2, 11-8) in the second round before beating Korea’s Minwoo Lee 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) in the quarterfinals.
Ghosal, who has won a total of 12 medals across categories at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, takes on third-seeded Australian Rhys Dowling on Saturday for a place in the final.
